The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has described the early Tuesday morning murder of an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Amzat Salaam (a.k.a. Alfa Abu), his wife and four children as a dastardly act that every living human soul must condemn.
In a statement signed by his Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER Friday morning, the rights organization said the killings had once again revealed the underbelly of the Nigerian security agencies being that there is no adequate security for ordinary man due to what it describes as concentration of security paramphernalia on the rich and powerful.
The DEFENDER had reported that in its Wednesday edition that six Muslims were butchered in the early hours of Tuesday in their home in Atiba area, Odogbolu Local Government, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. The victims were a popular Islamic scholar, Shaykh Amzat Salaam (a.k.a Alfa Abu), his wife and four children.
“The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) strongly condemns this dastardly act,” said the statement.
The statement said further that, “This killing once again reveals the underbelly of the Nigerian security agencies. There is over-concentration of security paraphernalia on the rich and powerful in Nigeria. We call for equitable deployment of security agents in all the strategic parts of every city in such a way that every Nigerian can be well protected.
“MURIC charges the Ogun State Police Command to fish out the killers of the Salaam family. We want justice. Nobody should murder an Islamic scholar, rout his whole family and get away with it. Ogun police must prove its mettle within days.
“Finally, we appeal for calm among the Muslim faithfuls in the state. We also call for their full cooperation so that the police can freely conduct its investigation. We urge Islamic scholars all over the country, particularly in Ogun State, to remain law abiding, to tighten security around them and to remain vigilant day and night. May Allah have mercy on the victims, forgive
