In the petition, the Islamic human rights organisation urged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that justice was served in accordance with the law.

The Oyo State chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, demanding a thorough investigation and prosecution of one Ojo Akinlabi over the alleged murder of Pa Biliaminu Taiwo in Fiditi, Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State, in 2019.

The petition, dated October 22, 2026, was formally acknowledged by the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, according to a statement issued and signed by Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, Secretary of MURIC’s Oyo State chapter, on Friday, October 23.

MURIC alleged that Pa Taiwo was hacked to death inside a mosque in November 2019 by the suspect, whose reported arrest prompted the organisation to seek renewed police action on the case.

In the petition, the Islamic human rights organisation urged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that justice was served in accordance with the law.

The organisation also called on the police to ensure that the suspect was brought before a court of competent jurisdiction, arguing that murder is a non-bailable offence under Nigerian law.

MURIC further alleged that Akinlabi had been involved in other violent attacks, including incidents in which victims were allegedly stabbed with poisoned knives. However, the allegations were not independently established in the statement.

The organisation urged the police to handle the case diligently, stressing the importance of accountability and the protection of lives.

It described the alleged incident as a matter requiring urgent attention and said the case should not be allowed to suffer further delays.

“Justice delayed must not become justice denied!” the statement declared.

MURIC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting human rights and ensuring that allegations of criminal conduct receive appropriate attention from relevant authorities.
