Emir of Ilorin Celebrates Sultan of Sokoto at 70, Hails His Leadership for Peace and Unity

“The entire people of the Ilorin Emirate rejoice with the Sultan, the Sokoto Caliphate and the Muslim Ummah on this joyous occasion,” he said.
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has congratulated the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 70th birthday.

The Emir described the Sultan as a towering symbol of peace, unity and religious tolerance, whose leadership has continued to promote harmony among Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious or political differences.
This was contained in a congratulatory message issued on Monday August 24, 2026 by the Emir’s spokesman, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona.
According to Sulu-Gambari, the Sultan has spent seven decades demonstrating a life of service, scholarship, humility and nation-building, both within Nigeria and beyond.
“As the spiritual leader of Muslims in Nigeria, his wise counsel, commitment to national integration and dedication to the welfare of the Ummah have earned him respect both at home and abroad,” the Emir said.
He extended the felicitations of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, the people of Ilorin Emirate, residents and indigenes of Kwara State, as well as Islamic groups and associations, to the Sultan.
Sulu-Gambari prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the Sultan many more years in good health, wisdom and strength to continue playing his fatherly role in guiding the nation towards peace and prosperity.
“The entire people of the Ilorin Emirate rejoice with the Sultan, the Sokoto Caliphate and the Muslim Ummah on this joyous occasion,” he said.
The Emir also called on the Federal Government and the Sokoto State Government to continue supporting Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar in his efforts to promote peace, unity and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria’s diverse society.
