VIDEO: ‘Who is charge of governance in Rivers State till 2027: Wike on his another 4 years or Fubara?’
Legal profession should be ashamed Wike who has such poor reputation is a bencher - Oditah
An Arise Television journalist, Charles Oruegbwu, has expressed worry about the political situation in Rivers State with a guest at the making an intervention.
Charles says in a video sited by The DEFENDER that, “We all know that we are on the course of something very big politically there. What could also an economic and social disaster for Nigeria. To put it simply is that who will be charge or who ought to be constitutionally in charge of governance in Rivers State till the next in 2027. Would it be four years of the incumbent Governor Sim Fubara or four more years of the former governor who is now the Minister of Abuja, Nyesom Wike.
“But to be honest to be, to be honest, the limit of our knowledge because the signals are that the fight between the two men is unreadable tight because, of course, some argue that the law is inaluctably clear on that” and he said more including the recent stoppage by Federal High Court Abuja of allocations to Rivers State which points to how Wike appears to want a situation where the constitutionally recognised Governor, Fubara, to become a bird without wings while he, Wike, controls the State resources.
On the interview on Arise TV interview programme were guests who were brought to discuss the disturbing development in the state.
Among the guests was Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Professor Fidelis Oditah, who openly criticized what he saw as a troubling bias within the judiciary, particularly regarding cases involving former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
According to Oditah, Wike seems to consistently win all his court cases, regardless of the factual or legal grounds, which raises questions about judicial impartiality.
He remarked that the judges responsible for such verdicts should feel ashamed for allowing Wike to obtain favorable judgments seemingly at will.
He expressed concern that such decisions cast doubt on the integrity of the judiciary, suggesting that the judges might be allowing undue influence to sway their rulings in favor of powerful figures like Wike.
Beyond criticizing the judiciary, Oditah voiced disappointment in the legal profession for permitting someone with a controversial reputation like Wike to hold the distinguished position of a bencher.
Oditah sees this as a reflection of a wider issue within the profession, where integrity and ethical standards may be compromised in the face of political influence.
Highlighting the need for reforms, Oditah argued for stronger principles of fairness and impartiality in Nigeria’s legal and judicial systems.
He stressed that influential politicians should not be allowed to manipulate the justice system for personal gain.
In his words, “We all knew that soon Mr. Wike was going to procure a judgment. He doesn’t seem to lose any case, and it’s unusual for a person to always win all his cases, whatever the facts are, whatever the legal issues are.
“Those judges should be ashamed that Mr. Wike is able to obtain whatever judgment he wants from them. And I think the legal profession as well should be ashamed that the man (Wike) who has such poor reputation is a bencher,” he said.
