Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, Sunday night, proceeded to London for his scheduled medical follow-up, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said.

Speaking through a statement issued in Abuja Sunday night, the presidential adviser said his boss had planned to leave Sunday afternoon for the medical trip but chose to hold back to enable him receive the 82 schoolgirls freed Saturday from Boko Haram’s captivity before travelling.

The statement said, “President Muhammadu Buhari proceeds to London tonight for follow-up medical consultation with his doctors.

“He had planned to leave Sunday afternoon, but decided to tarry a bit, due to the arrival of 82 Chibok girls who arrived Abuja earlier in the day.”

The President, Femi Adesina said, assured Nigerians that there was no cause for worry over his health conditions, which appears to be response, once again, to insinuations about how people around the President were not telling the truth about his health conditions.

President Buhari, the presidential spokesman said, “is very grateful for the prayers and good wishes of the people, and hopes they would continue to pray for the peace and unity of the nation.”

Adesina said, “The length of the President’s stay in London will be determined by the doctors. Government will continue to function normally under the able leadership of the Vice President.

“President Buhari has transmitted letters about the trip to the Senate and the House of Representatives, in compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.”

The DEFENDER had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari had said upon his return to the country on March 10 from his 10 days annual leave, which was later extended on medical grounds, that he would need to return to London in weeks time for follow-ups to his earlier medical treatment as advised by his doctors.
