MURIC Commends Atiku’s Resilience, Says He Remains ‘Man to Watch’ in 2027

“As the political arena came fully alive for the 2027 general elections, we find it necessary to commend one of the opposition figures in the presidential race, namely, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for his vibrancy, versatility and resilience,” the group said.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for what it described as his “vibrancy, versatility and resilience” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
MURIC, an Islamic human rights and advocacy organisation, said Atiku’s sustained opposition to the Bola Tinubu administration demonstrated political dynamism and offered lessons for younger politicians.
The organisation made its position known in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, signed by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola and sent to The DEFENDER.
According to MURIC, Atiku’s persistence in seeking the presidency, despite having contested the position six times previously, was evidence of his political doggedness.
“As the political arena came fully alive for the 2027 general elections, we find it necessary to commend one of the opposition figures in the presidential race, namely, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for his vibrancy, versatility and resilience,” the group said.
“Though he has contested for the position six times in the past, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has remained unrelenting. His doggedness has become legendary.”
MURIC particularly praised what it described as Atiku’s dynamic approach to scrutinising the policies and activities of the current administration.
“In particular, the dynamism in his method of interrogating the activities of the current administration are fascinating, inspiring and didactic. The young generation of politicians have a lot to learn from his approach as an opposition figure,” Akintola said.
The group described Atiku as an “experienced, articulate, bold and enterprising politician”, arguing that he had been more prominent than Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in challenging the Tinubu administration.
“Atiku comes across as an experienced, articulate, bold and enterprising politician. He has been far ahead of Peter Obi in giving the Tinubu administration a run for its money although some Nigerians are yet to appreciate his efforts,” MURIC said.
The organisation consequently declared that Atiku remained “the man to watch in 2027.”
However, MURIC stressed that its commendation should not be interpreted as an endorsement of Atiku’s presidential ambition.
“This commendation should not be mistaken for an endorsement. MURIC has no preferred candidate or political party yet. We will speak on that at the appropriate time,” the group said.
