The attitude by which Nigerian press publish activities of terrorists on the front page of their newspapers has been described as partly providing oxygen for terrorists thereby worsening the security situation in the country.
The Federal Government of Nigeria gave this description while dismissing the insinuation in certain quarters that the Muhammadu Buhari-led Administration has been overwhelmed by the security hitches in particularly parts of North West and North Central zones of the country, worsened by recent attacks, first, on a 1000-seat passenger train and, seven days after, the military base in Birnin Gwari, both in Kaduna State.
The Nigerian Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made the assertion while briefing the State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday April 6, 2022. He said the government is not overwhelmed.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the terrorists, who attacked a military base in Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna State, on Sunday April 3, 2022, were repelled by troops and suffered heavy casualties.
