The book, titled Shaykh Usman Danfodiyo and His Flagbearers: Their Contributions to the Islamic Revivalist Movement, is expected to attract the attention of the Muslim Ummah, scholars, historians and others interested in the history of the 19th-century Sokoto Caliphate, particularly its historical significance to present-day Nigeria.
The unveiling ceremony is scheduled to take place at the International Conference Centre, K’asarawa, Sokoto State.
The publication is edited by Ahmed Tijjani Mora and Kabiru Haruna Isa, while the Sultan of Sokoto provides the foreword.
The book examines the contributions of Shaykh Usman Danfodiyo and his flagbearers to the Islamic revivalist movement, which played a significant role in shaping the religious, intellectual, political and social development of the region that later became part of modern Nigeria.
Shaykh Usman Danfodiyo, an Islamic scholar and reformer, led a movement that culminated in the establishment of the Sokoto Caliphate in the early 19th century. The Caliphate subsequently emerged as a major centre of Islamic scholarship, administration and learning across much of what is now northern Nigeria and neighbouring territories.
The contributions of Danfodiyo and his flagbearers remain an important subject of historical and religious scholarship, particularly in discussions about Islamic education, leadership, governance and the development of Muslim communities in Nigeria.
The forthcoming publication is expected to provide an opportunity for readers to explore the roles played by the movement’s leading figures in advancing its religious and intellectual objectives.
The Sultan’s involvement in the unveiling, both as the author of the foreword and as the royal figure presiding over the event, further connects the publication with the historical and cultural heritage of the Sokoto Sultanate.
The event is expected to draw interest from members of the Muslim Ummah and individuals committed to preserving and studying the historical legacy of Shaykh Usman Danfodiyo and the Sokoto Caliphate.
The unveiling will take place on November 2 at the International Conference Centre, K’asarawa, Sokoto State.
