The move was announced following a high-powered consultative meeting held in Lagos and attended by notable leaders of the organisation.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide has rejected the name Onye Nndu and announced plans to install Eze Ndigbo and executives of its administrative organs across states, local government areas (LGAs), local council development areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State, other parts of Nigeria and the diaspora.

The organisation said the initiative was aimed at strengthening unity among Igbo people at home and abroad under one umbrella while promoting peaceful coexistence and the preservation of Igbo cultural values.

According to the organisation, all Eze Ndigbo and relevant officials are expected to work with state and local government authorities in their respective locations in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The move was announced following a high-powered consultative meeting held in Lagos and attended by notable leaders of the organisation.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Elder Chukwuma Njoku, media aide to Amb. Chief Tony Obizoba, Director-General of Strategic Planning and Implementation of the apex body, expressed satisfaction with the decisions reached by the leaders.

Njoku said a framework had been established to ensure the peaceful election or selection of credible individuals to occupy various positions within the organisation.

He added that the meeting also agreed on the immediate installation of executive members of the administrative organs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide in states where no executives were currently in place.

The organisation said the measures were necessary to strengthen its administrative structure, promote internal cohesion and ensure effective representation of Igbo people across Nigeria and in the diaspora.

It further emphasised the importance of cooperation with government authorities at the state and local government levels to maintain peace, respect existing laws and promote harmonious relationships with host communities.

The planned installation of Eze Ndigbo and the constitution of executives across the various locations are expected to form part of the organisation’s broader efforts to establish a coordinated leadership structure and advance the cultural and social interests of the Igbo people.

However, further details regarding the implementation timetable, the criteria for selecting or electing the officials and the specific implications of the rejection of the name Onye Nndu were not provided in the information made available after the meeting.
