2027: Atiku Pledges Peaceful Campaign, Calls for Level Playing Field

Atiku said he remained committed to supporting genuine efforts aimed at strengthening democracy, particularly initiatives focused on protecting the integrity, credibility and fairness of Nigeria’s electoral processes.
Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to maintain peaceful campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku made the commitment on Monday after receiving a delegation from the Savanna Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD), also known as the Council of the Wise, at his residence in Abuja.
The delegation was led by former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, GCON.
According to Atiku, the delegation raised concerns about the need for peaceful electioneering and responsible conduct among political supporters throughout the 2027 campaign period.
He said he had consistently conducted peaceful campaigns over the years and assured the delegation that his approach would not change during the forthcoming elections.
Atiku urged the Council of the Wise to strengthen its advocacy for peaceful campaigns by engaging all relevant stakeholders, particularly the three arms of government—the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary.
He said each arm had an important role to play in promoting peaceful elections and strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
The former vice president also called on the SCDDD to advocate for a level playing field for all political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
