Ali Akbar Velayati stressed that “the Americans cannot challenge Iran and should leave this region”

The US and Israel are stepping up pressure on Iran, but they lack strength to split the country, Ali Akbar Velayati, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s adviser on international affairs, said on Thursday.

“The US and Israel are not strong enough to split Iran. The great Iranian people will not let this happen. They have increased the pressure because they see that Iran is developing despite the sanctions, and that we have a decisive say in the region,” he said in an interview with the Al-Mayadeen TV channel.

Velayati stressed that “the Americans cannot challenge Iran and should leave this region.”

Since September 17, Iran has seen a series of protests after the funeral of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. According to the official version, she was detained by the police for wearing her headscarf incorrectly. During interrogation, she suffered a heart attack from which she died.

However, according to rumors in the social media Amini had been beaten up by the police. On October 16, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi accused US President Joe Biden of “inciting chaos, terror and destruction” in the country.
