The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared that Tuesday December 3, 2024 will be the first day of Jumadal Thani, 1446 AH.
It will be recalled that the Sultan – in a statement signed Saturday November 30, 2024 by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaid, the Waziri of Sokoto and Chairman Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto – had directed Muslims in Nigeria to search for the new moon of Jumadal Assaniya (Thani) after sunset on Sunday December 1, which was equivalent to Jumadal Ula (Awwal) 29, 1446 AH.
Traditionally, this global online newspaper reports that in event the crescent of new month is not sighted like that of Jumadal Thani was not sighted after sunset on Sunday December 1, the current month (which is Jumadal Ula) will be counted to complete 30 days hence the declaration of Tuesday December 3 as first day of the new month of Jumadal Thani for this Hijrah calendar year.
Announcing the Sultan’s declaration, in a short note circulated by some members of National Moon Sighting Committee, was the Sarkin Malaman Sokoto, Malam Yahaya Muhammad Boyi.
“Assalamu Alaikum
“His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto has declared Tuesday 3/12/2024 as the first day of Jumada Assaniya 1446 AH,” Boyi said.
