There are no plans to unite the Kherson region with Crimea, head of the Kherson region’s military-civilian administration Vladimir Saldo said in an interview with TASS.

“All this is just behind-the-scenes speculations. There are no official discussions about it and there are no such plans,” he noted.

According to Saldo, a federal district may be created that will consist of Crimea, the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. “However, the region will still be there. There are no plans to change the administrative and territorial structure,” Saldo added.

The DEFENDER reports that Volodymyr Vasylovych Saldo, born June 12, 1956, is a Ukrainian politician and engineer serving as the de facto Governor of Kherson Oblast since April 26, 2022 following his installation by the Russian military during the Russian occupation of Kherson Oblast. He heads the Volodymyr Saldo Bloc, a minor political party which was banned by Ukraine on March 20, 2022.

He has been serving as the member of the Kherson City Council since 2015.  A former member of the Party of Regions, Saldo was the People’s Deputy of Ukraine from 2012 to 2015 and the mayor of Kherson from 2002 to 2012.
