Diala alleged that Musa, whom some Nigerians have accused of presenting himself more as a Christian general than as a Nigerian Army general, betrayed El-Rufai, the former governor of his home state, for political reasons.

As Nigerians at home and in the diaspora continue to view the incarceration of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, from the perspective of alleged political persecution, a statement alleging that the former governor was betrayed by the Minister of Defence and retired four-star General, Christopher Musa, has surfaced on social media platform X.

The statement was made by public affairs analyst Uche Diala, who questioned the alleged treatment of El-Rufai by Musa, despite the former governor’s reported role in Musa’s elevation within the military hierarchy.

Diala alleged that Musa, whom some Nigerians have accused of presenting himself more as a Christian general than as a Nigerian Army general, betrayed El-Rufai, the former governor of his home state, for political reasons.

Citing a screenshot of a January 15, 2026, post by El-Rufai on X, Diala titled his reaction: “Mallam Even Rooted for Him.”

Diala wrote, “January 15th this year, Mallam Nasir @elrufai commended and prayed for him.

“Not knowing what he had in his mind.

“Unfortunately, back to back, while Mallam shows them love, they stab him right in the back.

“And the list keeps growing.

“It is well.”

In the January post cited by Diala, El-Rufai had written:

“NIGERIA UPDATE: God bless Minister Chris Musa for being a breath of fresh air. May Almighty God help him in his honest quest for real security. This interview should be rebroadcast with English language translation as a matter of urgency.”

Reacting to Diala’s retrospective assessment, former presidential aide Lauretta Onochie said:

“We all rooted for him. But whatever Tinubu touches, he destroys. But he will recover when #TheGuyIsGone.”

Onochie’s comment came amid claims in some quarters that Nigerians who were once considered brilliant and patriotic become politically compromised after joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) under President Bola Tinubu.

A source, advancing that view, said: “Once a brilliant and patriotic Nigerian joins the APC since Tinubu started happening to Nigeria on May 29, 2023, he is no longer himself, as he does not reason well anymore.”
