The Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide has sent out its deepest appreciation to President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for signing into law the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and also urging all critical stakeholders on full implementation of the contents of the act in the next few months.

The DEFENDER reports that President Buhari, who is currently working from home in observing his compulsory isolation following his return from London, United Kingdom, signed the agelong bill passed recently by the National Assembly, signed it into law on Sunday 16 August, 2021.

The Igbo apex body expressed confidence that the PIB now becoming a law is sign of goo, great development to come in the oil producing region and, by extension, Nigeria.

This appreciation was made through a statement issued by Director General, Strategic Planning and Implementations, of the group, Amb. Tony Chiemelu Obizoba, dated 18 August, 2021 and copy which was obtained by The DEFENDER.

“We are confident that the tension in the host communities will die down when the PIB Act is adequately implemented.”

It found a space in the statement for the appreciation of National Assembly leadership for breaking the jinx having passed the bill after 20 years it had stayed with past Assemblies without seeing the light of the day.

“The Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide also congratulates the courage of National Assembly led by the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan, who made it possible for the PIB to scale through Both Chambers after over 20 years it has been there but without life injected into it.”
