Murder: Ogun police arrests 43-year-old man for killing over woman
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 43 year old man, Adebisi Akinrinmola for killing another man, Ademola Asimiyu, 36, over a woman.
This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
ASP Oyeyemi in the statement said, “The incident occurred on the 19th February, 2017 at about 3.00pm at Ajebo Village in Ijebu-Igbo area of Ogun State.”
The suspect, it was learned, claimed that the deceased had been threatening him over a woman he was dating. He said the deceased accused him of snatching the woman from him and had been warning him to leave the woman.
Trouble started when the deceased met the suspect with the said woman on their way coming from the farm and hot argument ensued between the two men. The suspect claimed that it was the deceased that brought out a cutlass and made attempt to matchet him which prompted him too to bring out a dane gun and shot him to death.
The Ijebu-Igbo Police Division Headquarters however got a distress call to the effect and immediately dispatched a team of detectives led by the DPO, SP Agene James, to the scene of crime, where the suspect was promptly arrested and the dane gun with which he allegedly killed Asimiyu was recovered from him.
In the meantime, the remains of the deceased had been deposited in an Ogun State hospital mortuary for autopsy while the suspect was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the state police command for further investigation, on the order of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu.
Also, CP Iliyasu, speaking on the crime, warned residents of the state of consequences of jungle justice, stressing that the law would deal decisively with anyone caught taking the laws into his own hand.
He described the incident “as a barbaric one which is not acceptable in any sane society.”
