The National Women’s Wing of the Nawair –Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria and overseas recently rolled out red carpets to honour 23 Muslim mothers of valour, Da’eyah extraordinaire and Philanthropists of Repute. The occasion was during her National programme in Lagos with the theme: Mothers as a Pivot for societal Transformation and Panacea for Insecurity. It was the first time such an occasion held in the annals of the women’s wing of the society.
Welcoming guests and honourees inside the Lagos State Secretariat multipurpose hall, Alausa, Ikeja-Lagos, the ebullient National Chairperson of the society, Hajia Muibat Aribidesi, encapsulates the purpose of the gathering. ‘’celebrating these women is to showcase them as role models and pride of Islam. They have done much in touching humanity with their styles of dawah and Islamic contributions, for which we all are proud of them. In addition, the occasion is to remind mothers of their roles and responsibilities in home-building, the transformation of the society and country at large’’.
In a lecture delivered at the occasion, Imam Ahmad AbdurRahman of Ansar-Ud-Deen Islamic Society reminded women of their motherly roles as ordained by Allah SWT, in the Glorious Quran and Hadith of the prophet. He mentioned their expected roles as moulders of children, home-makers, disciplinarians and Society-builders. He regretted that today’s mothers have since abdicated these roles. ‘’Therefore, they are responsible for the myriads of waywardness among children that now pervades the county. ‘’Mothers now spare the rod and spoil their children’’. He concluded, the consequences of the abdication are what Nigeria is going through today.
He therefore, urged them to work hard to live up to their expected roles as that will help the country to get away from the current security challenges and other untold vices.
Another speaker at the occasion, Dr Mrs Khadijah Olaniyan of the Lagos State University, charged Muslim women, in general, to be more active in the public space. She advised the women wing of Nawair –Ud-Deen Society to use their numbers in forming a pressure group, defending the religion of Islam and Muslims of the country on issues affecting the girl-child and women in general. And they should be ready to be part of the socio-political re-engineering of the country to protect Islamic values from further erosion by non-Muslims.
