Edo 2020: PDP aspirant, Ogbeide-Ihama debunks rumours of $2 bribe from Obaseki

*Asserts Obaseki’s intolerance for corruption

Aspirant of the Peoples Democratic party in the September 19, 2020 Governorship election in Edo State, Mr Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama has debunked report alleging that governor Godwin Obaseki who is seeking re-election on the platform of the party has offered him the sum of $2 million to step down for him.

On Sunday, the member representing Oredo Fedetal Constituency who is also one of the gubernatorial aspirants in PDP debunked the report through one of his Campaign Coordinators, Mr Ugiagbe Ogbeide-Ihama to counter the allegation.

Rumours of financial inducement linking Ogbeide-Ihama and the Governor in the social media after the Governor’s defection to the PDP on Friday last Week.

But, Mr Ugiagbe in a press release on Sunday, admitted that Ogbeide-Ihama have being holding meetings with the incumbent Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki who is also the leader of the party in the State, however, “the Governor has never offered Ogbeide-Ihama money” to bury his ambition.

Mr Ugiagbe explained that whatever negotiation that is ongoing between Ogbeide-Ihama and the Governor at the moment is “normal in politics”, asserting however the Governor’s repeated indisposition that “Edo peoples money is for development, and not to be shared with politicians”.

He stressed that “Ogbeide does not have any personal grudges against the Governor, adding that Ogbeide-Ihama is still in the Governorship race.

According to him, there is no iota of truth in the rumour that the Governor has offered Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama money to step down for anybody.

He urged the general public to disregard the rumours which he claimed was being sponsored by a political renegade, Edo Peoples Movement (EPM) to disparage him and the PDP.

A staunch ally of the Governor said Mr Godwin Obaseki already has over 80 per cent of support of PDP leaders across the 192 Wards in the State and will not cave into any act of cruelty blackmail by mischief makers haven been granted a waiver by the national leadership of the party to contest the party’s Governorship primaries.
