BREAKING: PDP’s Senate Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio meets President Buhari in London
Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West District, and Senate Minority Leader, Sunday met with President Muhammadu Buhari in London, United Kingdom.
A presidential aide managing President Muhammadu Buhari’s social media accounts, Mr. Tolu Ogunlesi, posted this on his twitter handle on Sunday.
Reason for the opposition Senator’s visit to President Buhari, who is on a 10-day annual leave in London, was unknown as at the time of filing this report due to the fact that inquiry sent to the presidential aide was yet to be replied to.
Akpabio has earlier been reported by The DEFENDER as now set to defect from his party the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following his meeting with the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday, in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
Buhari’s aides, Ita Enang and Obolo-Obla have both confirmed the readiness of APC to receive the former Akwa Ibom State governor into the fold of the ruling party between Wednesday and Thursday this coming week.
The coming into APC will not only be an APC’s retaliation to the unending plots by the PDP, which among other things had aimed at using defection of its members to weaken the ruling party particularly at the National Assembly to then be able to use anticipated opposition legislative majority to either impeach the President or frustrate his government thereby continuing to make him unsellable at February 2019 presidential election.
It will be recalled that the moment some APC lawmakers defected to PDP recently, Senate President Bukola Saraki shutdown down the National Assembly on what he claimed to be annual recess but which even senators of opposition to which the Senate President has now defected into have revealed to be was done to re-strategise against plan of APC to remove Saraki as senate president.
The latest developments may have put spanners in the wheel of the Bukola Saraki attempt to actualise the Olusegun Obasanjo-led anti-Buhari’s re-election PDP coalition. Akpabio moving into APC plus the massive crowd that welcomed Alhaji Lai Mohammed to Ilorin last week and lockdown experience that Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko’s home coming Saturday is further proof that the anti-Buhari efforts are now in vain as more Nigerians are saying APC defectors must by now be regretting their actions.
Lai Mohammed and Aliyu Wamakko well attended home coming witnessed massive crowds as both leaders made “Who is in charge” visits to their respective states of Kwara and Sokoto following the harvest of defections orchestrated by the Senate President Bukola Saraki.
