APC clears all seats in Imo LG polls, as ISIEC declares results
The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has officially declared Saturday Local Government election results in the state.
According to the results, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all the 27 seats in the election.
It will be recalled that the election was boycotted by the main opposition parties in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Grand Progressives Alliance (APGA).
About 14 political parties were said to have participated in the election, our correspondent learnt.
In the results of the election announced by the Chairman of the Imo State independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), Ethelbert Ibebuchi, the party also won in 636 wards out of the 645, leaving the Accord Party, KOWA, Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the Rebuild Party of Nigeria (RPN), with one wards each.
Ibebuchi, who said that there were irregularities in five wards, commended the state government, security agencies and the electorate for the peaceful conduct of the election
Meanwhile, Governor Rochas Okorocha has commended the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) for the successful conduct of the election.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, the governor noted that the commission has shown that it has the capacity to conduct free and fair election without eyebrows being raised.
The governor also congratulated Imo people for coming out in their large numbers to exercise their franchise in the election.
He also thanked them for also ensuring peace throughout the period the election lasted adding that it was a good omen that there was no report of any hitch or trouble in any Local Government or Community where the election took place.
Okorocha equally felicitated the leaders and members of the party for the unity of purpose among them and the high spirit they displayed in the election. He commended other political parties that participated in the election for being part of the electoral event by strengthening the nation’s democracy.
