“It would be recalled that we issued a statement shortly after the congresses stating that the congresses did not truncate the tenure of the current State Executives,” the statement read.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to reports that a Federal High Court ruling has removed its recently elected state chairmen, stating that it is reviewing the judgment and will respond appropriately.
In a press statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said its attention had been drawn to media reports concerning a decision by the Federal High Court presided over by Joyce O. Abdulmalik.
According to the reports, the court ruling affected state chairmen who were elected during the party’s recent congresses but had not yet been formally inaugurated.
The ADC reiterated that it had earlier clarified the status of its state leadership following the congresses. The party maintained that the process did not terminate the tenure of existing state executives, who are expected to complete their terms before newly elected officials assume office.
“It would be recalled that we issued a statement shortly after the congresses stating that the congresses did not truncate the tenure of the current State Executives,” the statement read.
In response to the reported court decision, the party leadership has directed its legal team to examine the judgment in detail. The outcome of that review, the ADC said, will guide its next steps.
Party officials did not provide further details on the implications of the ruling but emphasized that due process would be followed in addressing the matter.
The development adds to ongoing legal and political disputes surrounding party leadership structures within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
