{FLOOD} Sultan of Sokoto leads other monarchs on condolence visit to Borno

*Donates N50m to Borno Emirate Council on behalf Northern Traditional Rulers Council

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has arrived Maiduguri, Borno State on purpose of visiting to pay condolences to the Emirate, people and government of the state over recent devastating flood disaster that claimed many lives, properties and eroded means of livelihood of a number of residents.

The Sultan of Sokoto Media Team said the visit was done in a display of unity and compassion, during which the Sultan was accompanied by Etsu Nupe and Chairman Coordinating Committee of National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN), HRH Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar.

Other notable traditional leader who accompanied him on the visit was the Emir of Gummi and Chairman Coordinating Committee of Northern Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC), His Royal Highness Justice Lawal Hassan Gummi OFR and some members of the ruling families of Sokoto Caliphate including a two-time Nigerian Minister of Transport and Sports, Alhaji Yusuf Sulaiman, who were received at the Maiduguri Airport by the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi.

They had their first port of call at the Government House, where the Sarkin Musulumi of Nigeria sympathised with the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, members of his government, the Borno Emirate and the entire good people of the state over the unprecedented flood disaster.

The august vistors later drove to the Shehu’s Palace, where they met other Emirate Council members.

At the Palace, the Sultan expressed his condolences on behalf of others, after which prayers were offered for repose of the departed souls in Al-Jannah Firdaos.

Prayers were also offered for quick recovery of the injured persons who are currently receiving treatments in various hospitals in the state.

The DEFENDER reports that Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar donated N50 million to the Borno Emirate Council on behalf of Northern Traditional Rulers Council during the visit to Shehu of Borno in company of the Etsu Nupe and the Emir of Gummi.

This globalised online newspaper had reported recently how the Sadaukin Sokoto and Executive Chairman of Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Commission (SOZECOM), Engr. Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, led a team of sympathisers to pay condolences, while also delivering food items and other relief materials worth N30 million to the people.

The items were distributed to the people through the Shehu of Borno to the Shehu of Borno during the Sadauki’s visit said to be in an effort to alleviate their suffering caused by the recent flood disaster.

They were the food items, valued at N30 million as contributed by Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo A.A., Jarman Sokoto, and Alhaji Murtala Abdulqadir Dan Iya.

The donations included 100 bags of 100kg rice, 100 bags of garri, 100 cartons of spaghetti, 100 cartons of Maggi seasoning, and 30 jerrycans of cooking oil.

While receiving the donation, the Shehu of Borno and Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, expressed their appreciation to the donors.

They prayed for Allah (SWT) to reward their generosity with Jannatul Firdaus.
