We have not received any report on Dino Melaye’s kidnap, Police says as Citizens question ‘kidnap’ story

One of them, Mr. Wale Ogunyemi, an economist, said, “I think Senator Ben Bruce who broke this news should be grilled by the Police to tell us more about the kidnap story because all of the bad things that have happened to this set of corrupt lawmakers have been told to Nigerians via their twitter handle only as if they are the only ones twitter was made for. The police guarding him and others should tell why only Melaye amidst security protection was kidnapped,” he said.

The Nigeria Police Force has said that it has not received any report about Senator Dino Melaye kidnap.

It however said that it has commenced investigation into the purported kidnap of the senator and wish to implore any of his family members, relatives or friends who witnessed the kidnap or have information about the purported kidnap of the Senator to report the incident at the nearest police Station.

The Police spoke just as some Nigerians are asking questions as to when, where and how the Kogi senator was kidnapped, especially, a day to his arraignment for the commencement of his gun running trial in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.

The police guarding him and others should tell why only Melaye amidst security protection was kidnapped,” he said.

The Police in a statement signed by Ag. DCP Jimoh Moshood, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters said ‘the Nigeria Police Force have not received any complaint or report in any of its Police Stations or Divisions throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) or any other State of the Federation of the kidnap of Senator Dino Melaye from any of his family member, friend, associate or staff to indicate that the Senator has been kidnapped.

The Police further said that ‘the attention of the Police was drawn to the report of the purported kidnap of Senator Dino Melaye in some sections of the media.

However, the Force has commenced investigation into the purported kidnap of Senator Dino Melaye, and wish to implore any of his family members, relatives or friends who witnessed the kidnap or have information about the purported kidnap of the Senator to report the incident at the nearest police Station to assist the Police in the investigation.

Senator Dino Melaye was reported kidnapped by unknown gunmen on his way to Kogi from Abuja according to Senator, Ben Murray Bruce, in a tweet Melaye who is to appear before the magistrate court sitting in Lokoja today in a case of alleged arms running was attacked by armed men who were reported to have blocked his way in a Government Hilox and a Sienna bus.

In the meantime, the Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye reportedly said to have been kidnapped on Thursday morning at Gwagalada, Abuja on his way to court in Lokoja has been lampooned with many asking him to find another joker to throw “in this game”.

It will be recalled that the lawmaker was supposed to appear in court on Thursday but failed following a reported attack on him by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

Nigerians, however, took to the social media to react to the news.

While some are of the opinion that the Kogi lawmaker might have staged his own abduction, others said they were tired of the various drama playing out by dubious politicians in the country.
