Oyebanji wins 2026 Ekiti governorship election with landslide victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Oyebanji, as winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election held across the state on Saturday June 20, 2026.

Returning Officer for the solo election, Professor Adenike Oladiji, announced the result at about 3:13 a.m. on Sunday June 21, 2026 at the State Collation Centre. She said Oyebanji scored 319,224 votes to emerge victorious in the poll.

According to Oladiji, who is Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oluwole Oluyede, garnered 40,543 votes, while Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Party (ADP) polled 12,872 votes.

She disclosed that 384,940 voters were accredited for the election. Of the total votes cast, 375,777 were declared valid, while 6,332 were rejected.

Voting commenced at about 8:31 a.m. on Saturday and officially ended at 2:30 p.m., with more than 300,000 voters participating in the exercise.

The final results were compiled from all 16 local government areas of the state and collated at the State Collation Centre before the declaration of the winner.
