Reports claim Chinese surveillance ship operating near Gulf of Oman

Analysts cited in various security discussions suggest such data could help improve the accuracy of military operations by providing detailed information about radar systems and troop movements.
A Chinese vessel identified as Liaowang‑1 has reportedly been operating in waters near the Gulf of Oman, with some military analysts claiming the ship may be providing intelligence support to Iran.
According to defence observers, the ship is believed to be capable of collecting signals intelligence (SIGINT) and telemetry data that could potentially be transmitted in real time to Iranian command structures.

Analysts cited in various security discussions suggest such data could help improve the accuracy of military operations by providing detailed information about radar systems and troop movements.
The vessel is part of China’s Liaowang class of tracking ships, which China officially describes as platforms used to monitor and track satellites and space missions.
However, its presence in the region has drawn attention from defence analysts who argue the ship’s advanced surveillance equipment could also be used for broader military intelligence purposes.
Some reports further claim the ship has been operating in proximity to Chinese naval assets, including Type 055 destroyer warships, a development analysts say may indicate a stronger Chinese naval presence in the region.
Security experts note that vessels like the Liaowang-1 typically operate in international waters, where their activities remain within the bounds of maritime law. From such positions, they can monitor communications, missile tests and military movements over long distances.
The reported deployment comes amid heightened tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran in the wider Middle East, with analysts closely watching the role external powers may play in the evolving security landscape.
Oskar Films, a social media platform describes this ship as “This is the “UNTOUCHABLE” Chinese Spy Ship LIAOWANG-1 positioned in the Gulf of Oman, reportedly feeding real-time DATA to IRAN. And the U.S don’t dare to attack.”
It said, “This realtime information flow is believed to be the “invisible hand” behind the recent surgical accuracy of str!kes against high-value targets, including sophisticated Western radar installations.
“While China officially describes the Liaowang-1 as a space-tracking vessel for satellite telemetry, its presence alongside Type 055 destroyers signals a much deeper military involvement.
“By remaining in international waters, the ship operates within legal boundaries while providing Iran with a strategic “over-the-horizon” view of all U.S. and Allied movements.”
