Tinubu govt allegedly plotting re-arrest of Malami, as office raises grave rule of law, safety concerns

By OUR REPORTER, Abuja
This alleged plot by the Tinubu’s Administration is beginning to vindicate those including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and fiery female opposition’s coalition fighter, Lauretta Onochie, who have complained that the arrest and continued detention of Malami smacks of political vendetta.
The Office of Abubakar Malami (SAN) says it has been reliably informed of plans by government security agencies to re-arrest him immediately upon his release, despite being granted bail by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The office had states this in a statement titled “DSS Surveillance at Kuje Correctional Service Over Alleged Plot to Rearrest Abubakar Malami Raises Grave Rule of Law and Safety Concerns,” posted via Malami’s X handle on Wednesday January 7, 2026.
“This development is deeply troubling and raises grave concerns about due process, the rule of law, and personal safety.

“It will be recalled that weeks ago, a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) granted bail to Abubakar Malami, SAN. However, the bail order was not honoured, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission declined to effect his release, thereby frustrating a valid judicial decision.
“We are now credibly informed that fresh plans are underway to rearrest Malami on what are believed to be trumped-up and unrelated charges, immediately after his release on bail in the current matter. Intelligence available to us further in.”

The DEFENDER reports that President Tinubu had sent emissaries to former President Muhammadu Buhari before his demise to help prevail on Malami and other members of his CPC bloc not to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) but to no avail.
The now late Mr. Integrity has told his visitors to take his message back to the sender with assurance that he remained a proud member of APC but that he would not be able to help influence decisions of his followers’ future politics as they respectively are within their rights to decide.
Moment after, the Tinubu’s government started having problems with Malami and some said, suddenly, the former attorney general the president needed desperately became corrupt, allegedly.
