Fresh Crisis Rocks Kano NDC as Chairman Accuses Kwankwaso of Attempted Takeover
By KEMI KASUMU
A fresh wave of crisis has hit the Kano State chapter of the NDC following allegations by the party’s chairman, Alhaji Hussaini Isa Mai Riga, that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is attempting to take control of the party.
Mai Riga made the claim during a media interview in Hausa on Monday May 3, 2026, alleging that the former Kano governor is seeking to influence the party’s structure in a way that could concentrate power in the hands of a few individuals.
He cautioned against what he described as efforts to turn the party into a personal political platform, stressing that the NDC must remain an inclusive institution driven by collective interest rather than individual ambition.
The development has heightened tensions within the party in Kano, coming amid ongoing political realignments and jockeying for influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
