Barrister Niyi Aborisade, President of National Movement for Positive Change (NMPC), Nigeria and UK, is a journalist, lawyer and notable Nigerian in the Diaspora with passion for seeing Nigeria back on track as truly giant of Africa. He however believes that restructuring but not breakup is the best way to achieving it. In this interview he granted The DEFENDER upon arriving from London, recently, the Ibadan, Oyo State born activist lawyer says Nigeria once did well and can be made to do better again. Excerpts:

There is power in unity and we believe in prosperous United Nigeria. I think the call for separation from different quarters was borne out frustration as a result of the failure and ineptitude of bad past government.

You are International Coordinator of NMPC. What does NMPC mean and stand for?

NMPC is an acronym of Nigerian Movement For Positive Change. Our aim is to bring Positive Change to Nigeria.  We have 5 cardinal points as our aims and objectives. These are: Unity of Nigeria, good leadership, accountability, euality and good governance.

Does your group share the sentiment that Nigeria can’t grow except it breaks?

As you would have noted, number one of our aims lies on Unity of Nigeria. That is what we believe in and stand for. There is power in unity and we believe in prosperous United Nigeria. I think the call for separation from different quarters was borne out frustration as a result of the failure and ineptitude of bad past government.

Either of the answers, do you not think that not breaking up but working on existing structure is the fastest and easiest solution?

I believe we should remain together as an entity but there should be restructuring.

However, I have been saying it for long that we should first deal with corruption before anything. Otherwise, restructuring will be meaningless. Where corruption thrives nothing can be successful, no progress will be made and inequality will prevail. We need to address fully the corruption culture and deal with inequality if we want Nigeria to become a just and egalitarian society.

Even if we break there is no guarantee of success or peace as long as there is no change in our mindset.notging changes unless your mind changes.

What exactly do you make of the whole argument of where Nigeria started to get it wrong: I mean was there no time in this country that Nigeria did well?

During the Regional government, I believe we made progress because of healthy competition amongst the regions, who were trying to outdo each other even in academic and sports. That is the reason I advocate for restructuring along geo-political zones.

Where do you want to see Nigeria in the next six years (2023) and what is the road yo that point?

I believe Nigeria will move forward and get better in the next six years. Our democracy is becoming stable and we will make economic progress as well. I am hopeful that Nigeria will be great again and the current calls for separation will be a thing of the past. I will advise that our people should concentrate their energy now on those who owes the workers this wages.
