What IBB said about religion in Nigeria {SEE DETAILS}

The reinstatement of religious knowledge in all public basic and secondary institutions throughout the nation has been urged by General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), the former military president of Nigeria, The DEFENDER gathered.

In his view, this is the only way to restore sanity to society.

As the Niger State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) paid a visit to Babangida, he extended his support to its executive members, headed by Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna.

Babangida assured the CAN delegation that he is prepared to take the lead on this issue and promised to discuss it with President Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago.

Reflecting on his time as a high school student in the 1950s and 1960s, when religious education fostered understanding and compassion among Christians and Muslims, he stressed the importance of reinstituting religious education in the classroom.

According to IBB, reviving the teachings of religion in Nigerian schools is the key to societal transformation in the country.

He said, “In my secondary school days during the 50s and 60s, Christians and Muslims prayed and played together in love and unity, and religious knowledge was one factor that sharpened society in my growing days, but somehow, as a nation, we missed it somewhere.

The state CAN was lauded by Babangida for their leadership and commitment to bettering society.

With their ongoing lobbying, he was certain that the government would be eager to back programmes that foster morality and peace.
