WAR AGAINST CORRUPTION: Buhari’s government official invited, detained by EFCC

*Evidence this administration’s zero tolerance for corruption is real – Respondents

By OUR REPORTER

Another evidence of seriousness in the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government’s fight against corruption in the country unveiled Saturday, as an official of government, invited Saturday by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over some corruption related offences, has been detained.

The EFCC detained the official, who is the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu.

He was reportedly detained over a case of conspiracy, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N1.3billion.

Mr Okechukwu was said to have arrived the headquarters of the anti-graft agency in Abuja at about 1.30pm to honour an invitation.

He was still with operatives of the agency as of the time of filing this report.

Although EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the invitation of the VON boss, he reportedly declined further comment.

The DEFENDER reports that the Buhari government’s zero tolerance started to reveal when his close associates, tribesmen or religious group members, who were found to have connection with the arms money of the Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP government, were not only arrested but also had either been made to cough out their shares of the “blood money” meant to fight Boko Haram or prosecuted.

Recently, a politician believed to be President Muhammadu Buhari’s worst enemy, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, was pardoned not only by the government, its party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), but also the President all of who accepted his change of mind and received him to the party with presidential handshakes.

However, that rebranded bride, Fani-Kayode, was not shielded when the law returned to have him for the continuation of his corruption trial over his past activities as Minister of Aviation under the PDP government.

The latest being the invitation and detainment of a Federal agency’s DG has been described by one of our respondents as another “evidence that Buhari’s government is uncompromising in its resolve to help kill corruption before corruption kills Nigeria.

“If you have forgotten quickly, under a government him, such government official would rather be pampered and that was all. This is not to say, however, that the man in the current scenario is guilty but the fact that a very high official of government can be questioned tells it all,” he explained.
