By BASHIR ADEFAKA
This day of 13 February, 1976, Nigeria’s Military Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, was assassinated on a Juma’at day, in Lagos, the then nation’s capital.

He was assassinated by Colonel Bukar Sukar Dimka led group of dissidents in a failed bloody coup the country will never forget and which also claimed the life of his Aide De Camp (ADC), Lt. Col. Akintunde Akinsehinwa and, of course, the Military Governor of Kwara State, Lt Col. Ibrahim Taiwo. The memory remains with Nigeria.
