UPDATED: Ramadan 1446AH fasting commences Saturday March 1, 2025 –Sultan, Leader of Nigerian Muslim Ummah

Leader of the over 100 million Muslims of Nigeria, world’s most important black nation, and Sultan of Sokoto Caliphate, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, night of Friday February 28, 2025 says Sha’ban, the eight month of Islamic calendar year has ended.

The Sultan said this followed the sighting of new crescent of Ramadan, that is the ninth of the 12-month Islamic calendar year, and that fasting for the 29-day Holy Month of Ramadan for the year 1446 AH would commence on Saturday March 1, 2025.
Recall The DEFENDER had reported previously that all lunar months are naturally 29 days in number ditto Ramadan, but that in event the new crescent for the next month is not sighted night after the 29th, then the current month is counted to complete 30.

Announcing the sighting of new moon for the ninth month – Ramadan – in the Council Chamber of his Usmaniyyah Palace of the Sokoto Caliphate Friday night, the Sultan, who is essentially the President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), explained that his declaration followed verified and authenticated reports of moon sighting from various Muslim leaders across the country.
He added that he had been accepted the report of the moon sighting and thus called on all Muslims all over Nigeria to commence the required fasting that is one of five pillars and vital essence of their Islamic region, on Saturday March 1, 2025 being the 1st day of Ramadan 1446 AH.

According to the Amirul Mu’mineen of Nigeria, “This Friday 28th day of February 2025 equivalent to 29th day of Sha’ban 1446 After the Hijrah of our Holy Prophet Muhamamad (peace be upon him) brings us to the end of the month of Sha’ban.
“We got some positive sighting of the new crescent of Ramadan as reported to us by various leaders across the country and we have verified and have authenticated such reports and duly accepted such reports.
“Therefore, tomorrow 1st March 2025 is 1st Ramadan 1446 AH.
“We call on all Muslims across this great country to devote the month of Ramadan in full worship of Almighty Allah and prayers for our country and for our leaders at all levels and to call our brothers and sisters to commence fasting of this Holy Month of Ramadan.
“We urge you to always be aware of the responsibilities on your shoulders as Muslims, to always pray for our leaders, pray for our states and pray for our country.
“We urge you too to always give out to the vulnerable amongst us so that they will also enjoy the Ramadan fasting, so the effect of giving to the less privilege will also add to the reward of Almighty Allah on your fasting.
“May Allah Haza Wajalla (the greatest in honour) accept our ibadah (worship) this Holy Month of Ramadan and grant us Al-Jannah Fridaos without Ihsab (account). May Allah Haza Wajalla give our leaders the strength to lead our country aright, with the fear of Almighty Allah, always, with the heart and mind of solving the problems facing our great country and cushion the problems facing, not only the Muslims but also, all citizens of this great country.
