UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the first statement on Ukraine passed by the UN Security Council and will continue to do his utmost to save lives and find a peaceful solution to the crisis.
“Today, for the first time, the Security Council spoke with one voice for peace in Ukraine. As I have often said, the world must come together to silence the guns and uphold the values of the UN Charter. I welcome this support and will continue to spare no effort to save lives, reduce suffering and find the path of peace,” says a statement released by Guterres’ office on Friday.

At a brief session on Friday, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a statement on Ukraine. It was drafted on behalf of the US presidency of the UN Security Council in May, but was agreed by all the Security Council members.
The non-binding statement expresses support for the UN Secretary General’s efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis and calls on all the countries to settle their disagreements peacefully.
