*We can help fumigate the entire Oyo – Sanitarian

By Marufh Bello

As the fight against Covid-19 across the world gets intensified, Professor Idayat Gbadamosi has offered that the people’s immunity should be boosted for humanity to conquer the epidemic and other diseases.

She said this just as Mr Adegoke Tijani, a sanitarian, offered to fumigate the entire Oyo State against the pandemic.

Mrs Gbadamosi, an associate professor at the Department of Botany, University of Ibadan, and Mr Tijani said this on a live radio programme in Ibadan.

Gbadamosi stated that people should make food their medicine and their medicine their foods, while listing the foods, particularly of plant origin, that could help them enjoy a healthy life full of strength.

She said people should always endeavour to consume foods that would help them build and make their immunity strong as doing so alone would continue to immune them and fend off any alien agents that might want to militate against their body system and existence.

Having been established by the anchor of the programme, Isaac Brown, what triggered death as a result of Covid-19 infection, Professor Gbadamosi highlighted the plants to be taken to fight off and stay away from any respiratory infections to include “orogbo” (bitter kola), “aayu” (onions), “bomubomu” (sodom’s apple), “omisinmisin” and “aidan”, where she gave direction on its preparation and administration.

Other natural foods Professor Gbadamosi listed, which can ward off viral and bacterial diseases and make human beings stay healthy and safe, include cereals, vegetables and pepper such as millet (“jero”), sorghum (“oka baba”), “ewedu”, “gbure” (water leaves), “tete”, ugwu (pumpkin leaves), “ijosi”, “kannafuru” (cloves), “atare” (alligator pepper), “atale” (ginger) “iyere” (black pepper) and garlic, while enjoining the people to consume more of foods of nature and concluded that, “If you turn to nature, nature will nurture you till old age.”

She, however, noted that people aged between 30-79, especially those with some predisposing ailments and smoking habit, were more at the risk of death on account of the viral disease.

Mr Tijani, the president of the association of sanitarians in Oyo State, who said they had given Covid-19 “Koofidi” (flush it away into the field), a Yoruba interpretation, avowed that the members of his association were ready to fumigate the entire state if the government called on them.
