But more reasonably thinking Nigerians have insisted that the ban on Twitter in Nigeria is the best thing to happen to the country in recent times. They are, however, unhappy that Twitter is still on and operating despite the ban, warning the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who made the announcement not to do things that would make the Buhari’s government finally lose the confidence and trust of the people.
The news about ban of Twitter by Government of Nigeria, Friday 4 June, 2021, for approving destructive, inciting posts of terrorist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), while deleting posts by government or pro-government interests to curb their evils, has been described by many Nigerians as a good weekend gift for patriotic citizens and friends of the country, home and abroad.
This was coming as over 148 respondents to a vote of confidence on one of the patriots’ social media post on Facebook returned 100 percent in favour of the Federal Government and President Muhammadu Buhari on ban of the American social media networking platform believed to have been serving the purpose of undermining the corporate existence of the country by promoting in Nigeria the same terrorism for which its home country claims to be fighting against globally.
To the post, “If you are with PMB on the ban of Twitter say HI”, over 148 comments responding said, “Hi” with scores of “Like” accompanying.
IPOB terrorists seeking secession on unjustifiable ground of not being allowed to rule Nigeria, have killed military officers and personnel in ambush and have killed countless number of Police, DSS, Customs, Immigration officers and men and have set police stations on fire. They then resorted to killing members of other tribes and destroying their worship places, all on the soil of South East, to really drive home their intention to instigate ethnic and religious war thereby setting Nigeria abaze and then achieving the objective of their dollar-rich sponsors.
This happening in the South East and the unjustifiable anti-Fulani crisis led by a known opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leading thug disguising as Yoruba ethnic fighter, Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a. Sunday Igboho, have been used by opposition including their coalition leader, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to, along with the politically resurgent Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorism in the North East and artificial banditry in the North West, judge Buhari as heading a failed government.
Although Obasanjo, and those who sponsored the insecurity they cried over, know what has been happening, it came from their own mouths to say “there are too many concentration of weapons in unconventional hands” and so urged the President to stop being silent but act.
The atrocities of the IPOB peaked when, during the week, they moved to now attacking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the only agency that can determine whether or not democracy would be sustained in any democracy based society, and setting their facilities and materials on fire. “The destroyers are however ignorant of the fact that by their violence, they are constitutionally paving the way for Buhari elongated tenure because, if a part of the country is in crisis, the law says there cannot be an election and the sitting government continues,” it was said.
The INEC leadership had visited the President to report the development as a threat to democracy and Buhari made his much-awaited pronouncement that it was clear, “Those who are misbehaving” now are not protesting because of 2019 election but future elections of 2023. The President said the elements who want to destroy the country have shock coming their way, adding in another statement on his Twitter handle a call of attention to the elements, who are mainly of South East where civil war was once witnessed, to remember what happened then which is yet to fully heal and, expectedly so, stop attempt of making a second civil war to happen.
Known lawyers, media and civil society and professional organisations and senators, “unpardonably”, came openly approving the activities of the terrorists by their calls on Twitter to suspend President Muhammadu Buhari’s account for mask by such comment that is in line with commonsense.
Although the social media networking platform appeared to shame the agents of insecurity when it disappointed them with a response that President Buhari’s tweets breached no rules, Twitter, which has allowed terrorist IPOB make destructive posts to collapse a democratic government and Nigeria, turned round and deleted the President’s tweets while still leaving those of IPOB on. It is an attitude that many say has no other description than to say Twitter is pro-terrorism and criminality against the unity, security, peace and development of Nigeria, both government and many Nigerians concluded, and patriots called for the Twitter’s ban.
The Federal Government hours later announced the indefinite ban of Twitter operations in Nigeria and gave the indisputable reasons.
Immediately, groups, professional and political that have been suspected to be behind insecurity in the country, now started coming up to run mouths on the government and the President. They include the PDP, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), SERRAP, already “blacklisted” Amnesty International and some other individuals.
“I want to see the justification of Twitter and those who are against its ban here for their criticism. What their action would mean is that they are not intelligent or educated enough to recognize evils when they see one, although they all take American dollars in disguise of fighting and campaigning against terrorism and corruption in nation’s that listen to them.
“America knows it is finished for it and that the world has truly loved from its grip, vreason it should have known that no way it can use Twitter or any social media in disguise to carry out its aim against any nation if the world especially in Africa and the Carrebean or Asia that it would not be exposed.” The patriot said.
