Sultan calls for immediate cessation of violence in Kaduna

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, says killing of people, especially children, in Southern Kaduna must stop.
Renewed cases of violence in the area have seen hundreds of people killed in recent days.
The Sultan stated this at the Executive Committee meeting of Northern Traditional Council in Kaduna on Monday, conveyed to deliberate on issues affecting development of the region, Southern Kaduna conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said traditional and religious leaders must come together and speak with one strong voice.
The multifaceted leader went further to demand that Federal and Kaduna State governments should also collaborate to bring an end to the mayhem in Kaduna, stressing that “enough is enough.”
To the Sultan, traditinal rulers in Southern Kaduna know what it takes to bring peace in the region and so he said, “I want to hear from them; how do we go about it, how we can help one another and help the government of Kaduna State to bring peace.”
He said a paper would be developed at the end of the meeting on ways to end violence in the region.
Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai, said the state government was open to the guidance and advice of traditional rulers, “especially from traditional leaders in Southern Kaduna”.
It would help in having permanent peace in the state, the governor added.
