Success story of how Crescent University’s First Class are World Class
“The most remarkable criteria for university ranking, especially for parents and sponsors should be the quality, character and performance of graduates in further studies and employment’’ Judge Bola Ajibola, Proprietor, Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
“The most remarkable criteria for university ranking, especially for parents and sponsors should be the quality, character and performance of graduates in further studies and employment’’ Judge Bola Ajibola, Proprietor, Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
If the products of an institution of higher learning is judged by the number of physical structures in its kitty, Crescent University, Abeokuta, (CUAB), Ogun State, may not take the first position. This is due to the fact that the institution is still at its developmental stage compared, perhaps with other government-owned citadel of higher learnings that had enjoyed increased funding over a long period of time.
But, in terms of academic and moral excellence , there is no gainsaying the fact that the institution which prides in its motto ‘Citadel of Academic and Moral Excellence’’ had lived up to the billings. That perhaps explains why the founder, Prince AbdulJabaar Bola Ajibola, can beat his chest and boastfully say to outsiders that the institution should be adjudged by qualities of its products.
In this age of moral and academic decadence in Nigeria, not many a proprietor of institutions, can beat their chest to make such a blanket statement. With an impeccable accreditation record, courtesy of the National Universities Commission, NUC, for some of its flagship progrmmes, such as mass communication, it is crystal clear that the institution is on a steady path of progress. The Mass Communication department alone scored 90% in the first accreditation exercise conducted by the NUC within the first few years of her establishment.
Today, it has moved up the ladder by coming out with this record as reported by the NUC : The total score for the programme is 93.5%. It scored 16.5 (91.7%) in academic content, 32.0(100%) in staffing 25.4 (94.1%) in physical facilities and 15.6% (86.7%) in library. The programme scored 2.0 (66.7%) in funding. Employers rating was 2.0 (100%) and based on the total score the panel recommended full accreditation status for the programme.
This academic rating is, be it as it may, the profile of the institution as hoisted by the proprietor, can easily be attested to by the performance of its products both in further studies and employment.
As a close observer of events, one can justifiably state that some of the institution’s alumni are making waves in the outside world. Their success stories are good testimonials of the saying that ‘’Crescent University First Class is World Class”.
For instance, the story had been told of a lady of sterling performance , Rafiat Gawat, who after coming out first class at Crescent University in 2010 went on to excel at Masters level with Distinction in Corporate Communication and Public Affairs in 2014 at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, United Kingdom. in Scotland. Gawat, today is on the Human Resources department of Guaranty Trust Bank, Plc.
Equally in her league, is Rofiat Alli, who made a first class in Accounting in 2013 and went ahead to clinch a distinction in Forensic Accounting from the University of Portsmouth, England in 2016. To cap her success story, she also got chartered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants with ACA in 2018.
Rasheedat Olowookere, the best graduating student with First Class in Accounting in 2016 has also qualified as an Associate Chartered Accountant this year with the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAN).
Another in that stead is Khadijat Folashade Adefila, who bagged a first class in Computer Science/ Economics in 2013 and capped it up with Distinction in MBA at the University of Scotland, U.K in 2015 and she is currently on her Ph.D at the University of West Scotland, U.K.
The story of Aisha Lawal Muhammed with First Degree in Accounting from the citadel of learning and M.SC management and Finance with commendation at the University of Birmingham City in 2016 is not different.
Similarly ,one of the products of the institution Dansadau Saidu who graduated in 2017 has completed his Masters Degree and he is due to commence his Ph.D in January at the University of Westminster, United Kingdom.
Another alumnus of CUAB, is Adedeji Joshua Ajayi, who in 2017 clinched an appointment with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as senior journalist in charge of planning. Ajayi clinched the high flying job by coming top from a pool of 170 candidates that contested and attended the rigorous interview session. He bagged both BSc and MSc degrees in Mass Communication from the university. He made a PhD grade and led the pack as the best graduating student at the postgraduate level during the 2017 convocation of the institution.
One noticeable feature observed with the institution is that, as a way of promoting excellence , it has a tradition of giving automatic and permanent employment to her products who are first class brains. This is to tap from their budding talent in further developing the institution.
However, it has been discovered that most of the graduates are usually in high demands by industries and as such most of her top-flyers, who are offered automatic employment hardly stayed back as they have realized that they have wings and they would love to fly!. Besides, CUAB products are usually over subscribed in the labour market by employers who cherish quality products. Nevertheless, few of the products are currently functioning as graduate assistants in the institution. In this vein, the story of Oyinkansola Fagboun, a product of Economics who was the best graduating student in 2014/2015 and and had been graduate assistant in the Department of Economics for two sessions before leaving in pursuit of higher academic laurel. Another shinning light from the Department of Mass Communication, Mrs. Khadijat Bolanle, a first class product of the institution in 2011 who currently lectures at the department is another amazon of the institution who no doubt is going places. Bolanle, a combination of brain and beauty, is currently pursuing her PhD at the Department of Mass Communication, Lagos State University, Ojo.
*WATER PROJECT: Some Alumni of the Crescent University Abeokuta, Ogun State gave back to alma matter as they financed borehole-sourced water project and donated same to the University which produced them. Standing middle to receive the commissioned project is Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila among others.
Zainab Hassan graduated with First Class in 2015/2016 as the best graduating student in the Department of Mass Communication. She also proceeded to the prestigious University of Lagos for her Masters Degree in the same field. She had earlier worked as Customer Service Executive at a five star hotel in Lagos before her recent employment with Globalcom Telecommunications Ltd in Lagos.
While the list of the institution’s graduates who are making the waves in different fields of human endeavour continues to grow by the day, it is expected that the government will support the vision of the institution and ensure that the vision of Prince Bola Ajibola and the giant strides being championed by the institution is sustained.
