SPECIAL REPORT: The Tigray crisis in Ethiopia as eye opener for Africans against Western monopolistic hegemony

By KEMI KASUMU

The people of Ethiopia have risen to the challenge of saying “we will no longer tolerate the foreigner’s control of our country because we are not a colony”.

Description of image
When Ethiopia’s people, brandishing portrait of the Prime Minister, stand with government of their country against West sponsored terrorist in the country.

The anger of the people was further provoked at following the alarm raised by United States President Joe Biden on Friday over what he called genocide committed by the government of the country.

Biden was speaking just as Publisher and Correspondent for Today News Africa in Washington D.C., Simon Ateba, sent to The DEFENDER an update of his historical encounter with Director General, World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in the America’s capital which happened day before that is on Thursday.

The WHO boss is citizen of Ethiopia and was Foreign Minister of the country until he was elected by member countries as DG of the world health body.

It will be recalled how the USA tried to sponsor the process for the sack of Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus as DG of WHO because he refused to accept the untrue and “malicious” propaganda against China in the heat of Coronavirus pandemic beginning from December 2019 and lasting through out 2020.

The people of Ethiopia are asking questions as to what the connection of United States of America is, with far away Black nation of Ethiopia.

But a careful study of Today News Africa update sent to The DEFENDER Friday has revealed that there is no connection other than struggle for self survival.

When Ethiopia’s people stand with government of their country against West sponsored terrorist in the country.

The update said “US and China at war in West Africa as WHO chief erupts in Washington over Ethiopia’s Tigray massacre”.

The DEFENDER’s investigations revealed that widespread acceptance of China as a development partner that works has not been favourable to the United States. But the people of Africa are saying USA has no choice to accept its own fate because, they say, if it is because of its own self interest that it is encroaching on all territories that are essentially of sovereignty of nation’s, then it is what is also good for them and their own continent that they will accept regardless of the race,, colour, tongue or religion of who is the development partner that makes that national good possible for them.

Across Africa, this is the trend lately to the extend that it took the people of Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea to recede to military rule at their own level to take hold of their countries from this Western hegemony they call unsolicited. It is the reason, in the case of Mali, the Military Transitional President, Colonel Assimi Goita, immediately after overthrowing government last year, declared Mali as henceforth no longer a French speaking country. He declared a national language that is now taught and spoken by people of the nation that had virtually drifted to a ruin as a result of the effort of self assertion by the West. And when President Emmanuel Macron made unfavorable comments regarding that Africanist stand in Paris, France, Colonel Goita gave the French Ambassador to Bamako and its peace keepers troops in Maki 72 hours to quit. That was done.

A Zimbabwean Professor Patrick Lumunbar, had expressed sadness how African leaders would take themselves before the West to agree on matters of continental purposes. He had complications understanding why an African rescued from drown in the Medetaranian Sea and was due to to be returned back home would hate to return to her country of birth. Western brainwash, radicalization and instigation of Black people that should never find them as immediate point of call for help considering the slave trade experience in history. And Africans lost their minds and sold their values for peanut value of dollar.

But the people of Ethiopia are more civilised and eyes open to this reality of history and current realities of unjustifiable Western control than people are, in Nigeria. It is the reason concerned Africans wonder how some black people would volunteer to fight the course of the West against the only Africa’s most defending friend among the world power, Russia, in Ukraine.

On December 6, 2021, Ethiopians living in Italy and Australia joined their country people at home staging rallies as part of the #NoMore international movement in their home country, which is causing problem for Addis Ababa.

It happened just as many patriotic Nigerians rallied support for their President, Muhammadu Buhari, against international organisations such as Amnesty, which would raise human rights issues against Nigerian government and security forces in apparent support for Boko Haram, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), any time action was taken to stop their terrorism. They do not buy a United States support that “supplies” weapons to government troops to fight terrorists and still goes ahead to arm those terrorists with more sophisticated weapons to fight the same troops constitutionally established.

The Ethiopian protesters in Australia denounced the atrocities commuted by the terrorist TPLF and called on the western powers particularly the U.S. to stop pressuring Ethiopia.

Moreover, a demonstration took place in Turin, Italy condemning the unwarranted intervention of western countries in internal affairs of Ethiopia.

Demonstrators also vowed continued support to the democratically elected government of Ethiopia and defend sovereignty and territorial unity of the nation from any internal and external threat.

Earlier on November 7, Ethiopians in Addis Ababa, headquarters of African Union (AU), in their tens of thousands, rallied to support their Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government as Federal troops fought rebellious forces, threatening to march on the capital.

Some demonstrators denounced the United States, one of the foreign powers that had called for a ceasefire to a year-long war, which has intensified amid advances by rebellious forces in the past week as of the time of the protests.

The United States Security Council, the African Union, and Kenya and Uganda have also called for a ceasefire in the conflict that had killed thousands of people.

Canada, calling the situation in Ethiopia “rapidly evolving and deteriorating”, had withdrawn the families of its embassy staff and non-essential Canadian employees, the foreign ministry said.

Abiy’s government, which had pledged to keep fighting, said it had a responsibility to secure the country and urged foreign powers to stand with Ethiopia’s democracy.

As the Western media, Reuters would report the effort of government of the country, it put words in the mouth of the state-appointed Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, saying the authorities appeared to be using a state of emergency declared on to arrest people based on ethnic identity.

“In some police stations, the families are denied access to the detainees, and they can’t deliver food and clothing. On top of that, elders and mothers with children are among the detainees,” West’s Reuters new agency quoted Ethiopia’s rights commission to have said in a statement.

Spokesman of the government in Addis Ababa, Legesse Tulu, and the Federal police spokesperson, Jeylan Abdi, did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment, according to the western medium report but it went to town talking in behalf of the same African government that, ordinarily, should be praised for fighting to end rebellion in the historic country.

Police spokesperson Fasika Fante had before then denied that arrests were ethnically motivated, saying those detained “directly or indirectly” backed the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), an outlawed party that was once part of Ethiopia’s government and is now battling federal forces.

Some of those gathered for the rally in Meskel Square in Addis Ababa draped themselves in the national flag.

“Shame on you USA,” read one placard, while another said the United States should stop “sucking Ethiopia’s blood”.

Sadly, America that should be happy at the resolve of the people to stand with their democratically elected government should nce, according it, democracy is about government of the people by the people and for the people, went after the entire country reeling out unsavouring comments, saying they would not succeed.

U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration accused Ethiopia of “gross violations” of human rights and said it planned to remove the country from a U.S. trade pact, exactly the way it had done against Nigeria and its military when, relying on “unverifiable reports” of Amnesty International, it was issuing all sorts of unkind words on the Africa’s most populous country. Thanks to the firebrands of the Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration, Mr. Femi Adesina and Malam Garba Shehu, who would not let cool the Amnesty’s dished “hypocrisy” before they hit at it. The public relations departments if the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigerian Police and Department of State Service (DSS) too have been commended for their resilience to cut those western tendencies to size.

The conflict in the north of Ethiopia started in 2020 when forces loyal to the TPLF seized military bases in the Tigray region. In response, Abiy sent troops, who initially drove the TPLF out of the regional capital, Mekelle, but have faced a sharp reversal since June this 2021.

At the continental level, leaders of all 55 African countries are now more more concerned with growing their own Africa and solving their own problems by themselves than any member country any longer having to take its case to the foreigner, mainly United States, United Kingdom or France, for a solution it will never get but have its situation for which it seeks solution compounded.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has led most of the efforts looking inward for solution to African problems since he came in May 2025. It is therefore natural that such a resident leader would become the target of the West, hence the reason a section of his own nationals inside Nigeria, even most of the times until he probably detected, inside the political party and government systems, to bring down his government through with regine change or death.

This x-ray by The DEFENDER is not to look into the question of whether the President’s never-happened-before sickness that drained him at the start of his first tenure was poison and how it happened. What we can obviously talk about is how some Nigerian youths, despite seeing the progress and achievements of their President, Muhammadu Buhari, in all sphere of life, still offered themselves as tools for America and its agents to be used to collapse the country.

Example, for as far as history of modern Nigeria and its challenges trying to grow out of the wood, will continue to be showed of Omoyele Sowore, the publisher if Sahara Reporters online newspaper without known office address in Nigeria, yet operating on the soil of Nigeria but using an address in the United States of America.

But the proactiveness of Nigeria’s external (NIA) and internal (DSS) security at the time, what Sowore was going to achieve with the #RevolutionNow mass protest can only be left to posterity to judge because, now, the same President Muhammadu Buhari that the West used him to oust from power, has since, in his characteristic magnanimity, released and freed him to go home. It is not the business of this work to determine or discuss whether Sowore has been let out of the hook of trial for that treasonable felony against the government and national integrity of Nigeria. There can always be another day.

Every leader of Africa has got something to say about the need for the continent to finally free itself from the USA-led West. Former South African President Jacob Zuma has spoken about how the West manipulate the fate of Africa by using African to destroy leaders of the continent just to install those who can compromise their race at the instance of the imperial colonialists yet unfinished. Zuma talk about how they used fathom allegations of corruption, morality scam just to incite the people against their leaders and use the same black country’s judiciary to try them only to drop the case after he had been removed and effectively replaced. “In whose interest is this done?” He asked while ventilating his support for Russia, a BRICS never country, against the West over the military operations in Ukraine.

Today in Nigeria, verifiable patriots are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari not to show indifference in the process for deciding his success come 2023. In deciding this, he has been asked to work out a coordinated arrangement permitted within the law of the land and constitution of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that the candidate that emerge will be that that is fully of African blood and will not take Nigeria back to the monopolistic hegemony of America.

It is the reason the source saying this to the President also said same to the opposition saying, “I know that the opposition is the only set of political players that have been dragging Nigeria to the West. Any slight issue, it is report to US, UK, UN and even Germany. Even to Canada. And these foreign countries would be ashamed enough to reject being reported to as they would not set up investigative bodies and in the end always conclude with a so called reports, rating Nigeria in terms of human rights index, terrorism index, economic growth index, etc. Who made them a watchdog over us?” He asked.

One of the African blood, concerned, made a post regarding the Ethiopia crisis now found to have the input of America but unsuccessful.

The post said, “Remember Ethiopia voted against or absented Thursday in favour of Russia. Today US raises alarm on atrocities in the country.”

Responding, another African named Prince Ahmad Olaitan Bashorun commented telling why. “The same West sponsored Tagay rebel against the government in Ethiopia just because he refused to sell share of Ethiopia Airlines to them. I love Ethiopia people they stood firmly with their government by staging a huge protest against the WEST.”

Kwaddwo Addai-Mensahin his own response said: “Just imagine. They want to victimize everyone who doesn’t tow their way yet they cry democracy and human rights.”

Shetima Mu’azu said: “The US can never sieze to be the world hypocrites !!!.”

Another comment from yet the creator of the of the post said: “Prince Ahmad Olaitan Bashorun, Thank you for your comment. Ethiopian people are the best. The way to go. They are showing the West by saying no to the hegemony from foreign land. That land of Africa used to be ruled by Christianity with its ruler asking. I know King Negus, who spent life at the advent of Islam.

“He was the first foreign leader ever to protect the Muslims against their pagan persecutors of Makkah. He became friend of Islam by asking questions about things that Christian leaders of today would cover.  That, CAN does well, covers truths of the Bible to destroy Islam and Muslims. Please who knows the home of Papa Kumuyi: He is great friend of Islam by all standards. It is not rocket science to explain his deep love for the same Muslim/Northern President Muhammadu Buhari that CAN President Samson Ayokunle and his group of leaders hate with passion.

“Simply because America asked you to delete Islam in Nigeria and you are doing albeit unsuccessfully. I love you Papa Kumuyi of Deeper Life Christian Church Worldwide. I love you all the people of Ethiopia, the Abbysinia of the old. I hope people, who say America is not responsible for global conflicts will now look at Ethiopia and tell us what is the interest of Washington in the Black Race of of Africa. At this point, let me call attention of my fellow, co-travellers in the pat eh of peace to see what we were talking about that is making peace elude the world,” he said.
