Sheriff to sue Makarfi for ‘contempt’
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has asked the party’s National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, to quit claiming the office or risk jail.
The national legal adviser and a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), Barrister Bashir Maidugu, told a national daily in a telephone interview on Sunday that contempt charge would be filed by Sheriff to prosecute Makarfi if he continued to parade himself or sign any document on behalf of the party.
Maidugu said the court had decided on the issue of legality between the two political gladiators, warning the former Kaduna State governor to be mindful of the law.
“He (Makarfi) should obey the judgment of the Appeal Court in Port Harcourt and stop parading himself as chairman of the illegal caretaker committee,” he said.
Barrister Maidugu explained that Sheriff followed due process in re-opening the PDP national secretariat which was shut by the police since May, 2016, describing the remarks of those calling the action of the former Borno State governor as criminal and illegal as laughable.
