Scores of school pupils feared dead, many injured as 3-storey building collapses in Lagos

It was a scene of horror on Lagos Island, Lagos State Wednesday as a three-storey building collapsed killing over 100 people including school children.

Although details of how the number of school pupils got to be that large were not available as at the time of filing this report as efforts to rescue trapped victims were still in progress, a top police source reportedly said that the building housed a school.

The school was said to be located on the last floor of the three-storey building.

A source at the Island Maternity Hospital said that many injured pupils were being brought to the hospital as well as those feared dead.

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), officers of the Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) and other rescue agencies are on ground to rescue trapped victims.

In the meantime, it was a sorry case as weeping and wailing engulfed the air as parents, nurses and others wailed as bodies of dead pupils evacuated from the three-storey collapsed building on Lagos Island were being brought to the hospital.
