Saraki vs IGP: What Buhari told Senate delegation – Source

Three days after the Senate’s 10-man delegation met President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa to discuss the face-off between the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, further scoops have emerged that the President did not give any commitment as the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawal, impressed in his press interview with State House Correspondent after the meeting.

A source privy to the discussions, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the President did not make a definite pronouncement on the Senators’ specific request.

The source added: “Buhari only promised them that he would get back to them on the matter. The President made it clear to them that he is committed to a cordial relationship between the Legislature and Executive arms of government.

“He said he would not encourage anything that would cause friction between the arms of government, especially as the general elections approach.”

“But on their specific demand on the IG, the President did not make any immediate commitment. He only told them that he would revert to them in due course.”

The DEFENDER had on Monday reported that President Buhari only told his legislative guests to wait for the police investigations over the arrested Kwara cultists to conclude before anything.

Recall that the Senate last week Wednesday set up a nm10-member committee to meet the President over an allegation that the Inspector General of Police was trying to implicate the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.

Members of the delegation were led to the meeting that held behind closed doors inside the President’s office on Wednesday by the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan.

Other members of the team include the Chief Whip, Olusola Adeyeye; Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio; Danjuma Goje; Sam Anyanwu; Aliyu Wammako; Fatima Raji-Rasaki; and Oluremi Tinubu.
