Putin’s Forces Hammer Ukraine in Fresh Wave of Deadly Strikes
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces struck military and logistical targets in Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as the Black Sea port of Chornomorsk. Moscow has maintained that its strikes are directed at military or strategic infrastructure rather than civilians. Russian forces have launched a renewed wave of missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, killing at least five people in Kyiv and injuring nearly 30, as Moscow intensified its long-range campaign after a brief pause linked to a visit by U.S. peace envoys.
The attacks on Tuesday involved drones and ballistic missiles and caused fires and extensive damage across several districts of the Ukrainian capital. At least 14 high-rise buildings, a dormitory, school, clinic, warehouses and other facilities were damaged, according to Ukrainian officials.

Ukrainian authorities said Russian attacks also hit other regions, including Sumy, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa. Railway infrastructure was damaged, while a passenger train in Zaporizhzhia was struck, killing a railway worker and prompting the evacuation of passengers.
Ukraine’s air force said it intercepted most of the incoming cruise missiles and two ballistic missiles. However, President Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian officials have repeatedly warned that Kyiv faces a shortage of advanced interceptors capable of stopping ballistic weapons.
The renewed strikes have also intensified calls from Kyiv for additional Western air-defence assistance. Britain announced £100 million in support for Ukraine’s air defences, including Patriot missiles and other U.S.-supplied military equipment, as Kyiv prepares for another winter of war.
The latest escalation highlights the widening gap between diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and the continuing missile and drone war, with both Russia and Ukraine stepping up long-range attacks while the front lines remain largely static.
