Police parades 19 suspects over murder of General Alkali, to arraign them in court

“The suspects we have got were the ones who led us to the place. They confessed that they initially buried him and later exhumed the body, took it and dumped it into a pit, so what do you think Nigerians would need again?” Plateau PPRO questioned.

The Plateau State Police Command says it is set to arraign 19 suspects involved in the disappearance and death of retired Major General Idris Alkali, the immediate past Chief of Administration (Army).

Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Tyopev Mathias, disclosed this to reporters after parading the suspects on Sunday at the Police Headquarters in Jos, the state capital.

“The suspects we have got were the ones who led us to the place. They confessed that they initially buried him and later exhumed the body, took it and dumped it into a pit, so what do you think Nigerians would need again?” he questioned.

The command spokesman added, “In order to clear our name and make it abundantly clear to everybody, we have involved medical doctors and other forensic experts and investigation is ongoing and immediately we are done, we will still call the press and address them.”

He revealed that after painstaking interrogation, the Command declared eight persons wanted, including the village head of Dura-Du in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

Mathias, however, said six out of the suspects declared wanted by the police have reported to the police while the other two were still at large.

He said the suspects would be charged to court according to their involvements in the matter.

General Alkali was said to be travelling alone in his black Toyota Corolla car from Abuja to Bauchi via Jos in early September before he was intercepted by some youths.

According to the Army, the senior officer introduced himself as a general to the hoodlums who had barricaded the road that he was just passing through to Bauchi.

Alkali was reportedly assaulted and killed, after which his money, phones, and valuables were shared by his purported murderers.

Army personnel later found a shallow grave where the slain general was initially buried, and later recovered his body on Wednesday last week at Guchwet in Shen of Jos South LGA of Plateau State.

He was finally laid to rest days after.
