“…in South East, it can be correctly said IPOB terrorist group controls the entire region and that the governments of the region succumb to its control, if IPOB would give no-movement order and it is allowed to stand.  It is more so when Governor Ikpeazu said as far as he was concerned, there is no IPOB in Abia State. That means, there is an idea by some governments of South East to use IPOB under the disguise of ‘unknown gunmen’ for whatever reason  best known to them,” he said.

The Police in Imo State has confirmed that Ahmed Gulak, former Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, was killed but declined to name Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as responsible, despite reported no-movement order by Nnamdi Kanu, the terrorist group leader, ahead of the time.

The police said the killing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain was by unknown gunmen Sunday morning, according to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) which also quotes the foremost security agency describing the killers as bandits.

The Police Command, in a statement by its spokesperson, SP Bala Elkana, said Gulak was killed at about 07:20hrs on Sunday by armed bandits who intercepted the cab conveying him and two other persons to Sam Mbakwe Airport.

According to him, Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the police or any security agency despite the insecurity in the Southeast, and Imo in particular.

The police spokesperson added that the cab driver conveying Gulak to the airport took an irregular route where his vehicle was intercepted by six gunmen in another vehicle.

The gunmen, the police said in the statement, identified Gulak and shoot him dead.

The police statement read: “On the 30/5/2021, at about 07:20hrs, armed bandits intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry cab carrying Ahmed Gulak and two others who were on their way to Sam Mbakwe Airport to catch a flight.

“Ahmed Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the Police nor sister agencies in view of the fragile security situation in the South East and Imo in particular.

“He left without any security escorts and while the cab driver took an irregular route to the airport, six-armed bandits who rode in a Toyota Sienna intercepted, identified and shot at Ahmed Gulak at around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport.

“The Commissioner of Police Imo CP Abutu Yaro, fdc has directed a discreet investigation into the matter as Tactical and Special forces have been deployed to cordon the area and arrest perpetrators.”

In his comment, a respondent who did not want to be mentioned told The DEFENDER that, “The police cannot be blamed for calling known killers of Gulak either unknown gunmen or bandits, they are at the forefront of ensuring security and peace in Nigeria. So, they can’t be seen as escalating the problem, so they possibly think.

“But truth remains that we read earlier that Nnamdi Kanu had issued a ‘no-movement order on the soul of Nigeria where there were government, kings and chiefs. For what reason would any South East government, at all, allow no-movement order of a terrorist leader be active like it has always been in the region?

“What that means is that, people have lied when they say Boko Haram controls Nigerian territory in North East because, there is no time Boko Haram is allowed such right in that Northern region side but in South East, it can be correctly said IPOB terrorist group controls the entire region and that the governments of the region succumb to its control, if IPOB would give no-movement order and it is allowed to stand.

“It is more so when Governor Ikpeazu said as far as he was concerned, there is no IPOB in Abia State. That means, there is an idea by some governments of South East to use IPOB under the disguise of ‘unknown gunmen’ for whatever reason  best known to them,” he said.
