At an event attended by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, firmer Governor of Ogun State Ibikunke Amosun, the state Governor Dapo Abiodun represented, Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Alake of Egba Land Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Registrar/Chief Executive, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede, and several other dignitaries, the Sultan of Sokoto and Leader of Muslim Ummah of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, flagged off remodelling of Egba Central Mosque in Kobiti, Abeokuta, Ogun State, South West Nigeria on Thursday April 17, 2025.


The DEFENDER reports that as a remodelled edifice, the Egba Central Mosque is now adjoined with an Islamic Centre for the good use of Muslim community of the state, which the Sultan described as a historic landmark for the Egba Muslim Council and a proud moment for all of Egba Land for the development.
The Sultan congratulated Governor Abiodun and his government for their efforts toward the initiative, and also congratulated Former President Obasanjo, the Deputy Governor, the Alake and the Grand Chief Imam of Egba Land, Sheikh Saadallah Bamgbola, during whose time the vision has taken shape.
The Sultan appreciated the government of Ogun State for recognizing the mosque as the official Mosque of Ogun State and supporting its redevelopment.
Delivering a lecture at the event, Mufti Sulaiman Onikijipa underscored the importance of a mosque, saying “Mosque (place of worship) was the first house that Allah erected on the surface of the earth.”
In an interview with Secretary General of the Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC), Alhaji Kamaldeen Akintunde Esq, he said, “The Egba Central Mosque is an existing mosque but is now to be remodelled and rebuilt by the Egba Muslim community and former President Olusegun Obasanjo is supporting the project.”
