Lawan Dare, an active politician loyal to the camp of former Governor AbdulAziz Yari Abubakar, was one of the governorship hopefuls during the 2019 general elections that ended up in legal tussle.

The Yari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) factional Chairman, Hon. Lawal M Liman, who performed the presentation of the admission letters to the sponsored 120 youths, said the gesture is unique in the sense that it is the first time since the creation of the state “where an individual would singlehandedly sponsor such large number of youths for studies out of the country.”

Liman further explained that the project is conceived to channel his contribution towards the educational development of Zamfara State and beyond.

He said that the state educational sector is in shambles and to some extent, neglected, which he said was partly due to the general closure of schools for long time due to CIVID-19 and further compounded by the lingering insecurity, “but worst more is the failure to settle accumulating WAEC and NECO fees by the state government.”

The chairman emphasised that the philanthropist’s intervention is directly addressing goals 1,2,4,5,8 and 10 of the sustainable development goals which addresses ignorance, illiteracy, unemployment, poverty and hunger among the society.

In addition to the sponsorship project, the philanthropist has also provided Gusau metropolis with five units of boreholes to ease the scorching perennial portable water scarcity that has been one of the major challenges in the area.

Dauda Lawal Dare has also constructed students hostels in School of Nursing, School of Health Tsafe and construction of 3.5km road at Federal University Gusau.

Earlier speaking, the coordinator of Dauda Lawal Dare Foundation, Ahmad Yandi, said the 120 students would be seriously be monitored to ensure the desired results is achieved.
