The Supreme Court has adjourned further hearing in the leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) till May 25.

The new panel that heard the appeal was presided over by Justice Musa Muhammed Dattijo.

Other members were Kudirat Kekere Ekun, Ejembi Eko and Sidi Dauda Bagge.

Chief Lateef Fagbemi, lawyer to Senator Ali Modu Sheriff challenged the competence of the appeal, saying that after the appeal court judgement, his client assumed the leadership of the party.

Also relying on the judgment, Fagbemi said the Sheriff faction of the PDP had written to withdraw the appeal, adding that the faction was the only one recognised as the PDP.

The Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division, in a split decision had affirmed Sheriff as the authentic national chairman of the party.

Two out of the three judges of the court ruled that Sheriff was the legitimate chairman of the PDP while the third judge recognised Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna State, as the authentic chairman of the party.

In its ruling, the apex court adjourned till May 25 to take all the pending motions. The court also ordered parties to file and serve their motions within seven days.
