Deji of Akure begins annual Ulefunta leave

It added that all markets, shops and stalls around the Deji’s Palace would remain closed throughout the Ulefunta period.
The Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Land, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, CFR, will on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, commence his annual traditional Ulefunta leave.
The seven-day traditional leave will run from Wednesday, September 16, to Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
According to a statement signed by the Deji’s Chief Press Secretary, Adeyeye Michael, the beating of drums is prohibited within Akure main town throughout the period.
The statement also announced the closure of all roads leading to the Deji’s Palace, urging commuters and road users in the affected areas to use adjoining routes.
It added that all markets, shops and stalls around the Deji’s Palace would remain closed throughout the Ulefunta period.
The statement urged residents to comply with the directives and continue their lawful activities without fear, explaining that the period of seclusion would enable the monarch to pray and seek the good and peace of Akure Land, Ondo State and Nigeria.
“Akure a gbe a ooo” meaning: ‘may Akure favour all of us’, the statement concluded.
