The Sultan advised voters to listen carefully to the promises of politicians during the electioneering campaigns and make their choices based on what they believe would best serve their interests and those of the country.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to carefully scrutinise the promises of politicians before deciding who to support in the 2027 general elections.

His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, Sultan of Sokoto.

The Sultan also cautioned political actors against politicising insecurity and other national challenges for electoral gains, urging them to focus their campaigns on issues capable of promoting peace, unity and national development.

He spoke on Monday September 14, 2026 when he received the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) 2027, led by its Director-General, Senator AbdulAziz Abubakar Yari, at his palace in Sokoto.

The Sultan advised voters to listen carefully to the promises of politicians during the electioneering campaigns and make their choices based on what they believe would best serve their interests and those of the country.

He equally urged political parties and their candidates to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaigns, respect the choices of the electorate and play politics in a manner that would strengthen national unity and development.

According to him, no government anywhere in the world can completely eradicate insecurity and poverty, but governments can work towards reducing their impact on the people.

The Sultan, like he has been doing to other political parties, wished members of the APC campaign council success and prayed for continued peace, stability and good governance in Nigeria.

Earlier, Yari said the delegation visited the Sultan to seek his fatherly guidance, advice and prayers ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had, even before becoming president, demonstrated commitment to the development of the North and Nigeria by supporting other leaders and development initiatives.

Yari added that the APC-led Federal Government had several achievements to showcase to Nigerians under the Tinubu administration, stressing that the government remained committed to promoting peace, unity and national cohesion.

He assured the Sultan that the party would conduct peaceful campaigns and appealed for his continued support and prayers.

Among those who attended the visit were the Wazirin Sokoto, Sa’in Kilgori, and the governors of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.

Others included former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari; former Sokoto State Governor and Senator Aliyu Wamakko; former Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima?; former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim; former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje; former Kebbi State Governor and Senator Adamu Aliero; and Hon. James Faleke.

The APC campaign council is expected to proceed to Lagos, in continuation of its consultations in the South-West, where it is scheduled to meet the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu.
