PDP on the verge to lose 2023 elections in Oyo – Olopoeyan
By Marufh Bello
A stalwart of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, has handed down a verdict that his party, PDP, is on the verge to lose the forthcoming 2023 elections in the state.
The stalwart, who was once a very close ally of Governor Seyi Makinde before and during the last governorship election in the state, disclosed this in a radio interview monitored in Ibadan, the state capital.
Alhaji Olopoeyan noted that the loss of the party in the 2023 elections was imminent for the lack of effective party leadership and neglect of party members who had been relegated and had not benefitted from the electoral victory of the party which they jointly labored for in the 2019 general elections.
The PDP chieftain noted that the situation had changed since after the swearing in and inauguration of the administration of Engr Seyi Makinde and his cabinet, adding that party members across the state had been in groans and pains for the neglect meted to them by all those elected on the platform of the party in 2019.
He said when any of the elected members of the party would offer any patronage it would be a bag of rice to a multitude of party members who would not go home with more than two to five cups of the stuff.
Olopoeyan observed that it was in the character of the elected officials to always come back to the party members when another round of elections was around the corner.
Meanwhile, Senator (Dr) Kola Balogun, representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the Senate, has taken a swipe on Alhaji Olopoeyan describing him as a person not worthy of being referred to as a member of PDP, let alone a chieftain of the party, adding that the party had a brighter chance for re-election in 2023 as they were on the verge to re-organise the party, according to a Daily Post report.
Alhaji Olopoeyan submitted that if the glaring lapses he noted in the party currently were not worked on and rectified, it would be difficult for PDP to come back to power in the state in 2023.
